Nino La Piana
Nino La Piana is an Italian pianist and composer, eclectic and versatile, whose career spans jazz, pop, singer-songwriting, film music, and special projects. He is distinguished by a refined musical sensitivity and a constant openness to the fusion of different musical languages.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with internationally renowned musicians, sharing recording projects, concerts, and tours with artists such as Miroslav Vitous (legendary bassist of Weather Report), Enrico Rava, Gianni Coscia, Celina Pereira, Stefano Bagnoli, Vince Tempera, and singer-songwriter Mariano Deidda. These collaborations have shaped a solid artistic path, blending jazz rigor with strong communicative immediacy.
Alongside his jazz activity, Nino La Piana has developed significant experience in the Italian singer-songwriter tradition, working closely and continuously with Mariano Deidda on numerous recording projects and tours, including works dedicated to poetry and the art song. He is also the pianist and arranger for Matteo Brancaleoni’s Italian Swing Band, performing extensively in concerts and tours, moving effortlessly between swing, pop, and jazz.
He has taken part in large-scale orchestral projects, collaborating with the Franco Piana Big Band in settings that included high-profile musicians such as the Corvini brothers. His work also encompasses film music and the composition of original scores for special events.
Among the most significant projects of his career are:
“I Remember Tenco” (2010) – a tribute album to Luigi Tenco, where he served as pianist and arranger
“Liberidentro” (2007) – an album with lyrics by Mariano Deidda, for which he composed the music and performed as pianist
“Deidda Interprets Pessoa” (2007) – a project co-composed with Mariano Deidda
“Voglio esserci”, the Official Anthem of the Volunteers of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, which he co-wrote and performed as pianist
